Sport

When we say Sport, first term which comes to mind is The Agility Competition. This new dog sport started in 1977 in England. A few enthusiasts from North England got together to discuss some ideas and thoughts they had for a new, faster and more exciting action sport. They decided to combine sport called Dog Agility with elements of Obedience, Working trials and Show jumping. This idea created a sport as we know today, very fast paced yet perfectly under control competition of tasks. This new sport had it's first public showing at Crufts in 1978 and since that time it still is the fastest growing canine pursuit we have ever known.

Border Collies, working Sheepdogs and German Shepherds were the main breeds competing in the early days. There are, of course, a lot of other breeds involved in this discipline, but for the last twenty years it has become dominated by Border Collies and working Sheepdogs. Why? We know the answer - they are fast, agile, extremely intelligent, and importantly, can "turn on a sixpence".
